The story centers on a contest where 456 players who have financial crises willingly participates in this contest to win the prize. Seong gi-hun, a divorced father, also joined the game with the motive of winning the cash prize. All the 456 players were taken to a place where they are supposed to stay till the game is over. All of them were quite excited about the game. But little did they know about the awaiting danger.

As soon as they entered the dorm room, they were given green tracksuits. Other than the 456 players, there were guards wearing pink masks to guide them and keep them under their watch. The guards give them food and also instruct them regarding the daily games. Soon after the first game, they realized the most important rule of the game, which is losing the game would cost their lives. If anyone loses the game, they are shot then and there without any mercy.

Though they shouted and made noise, they realized there is no way out than surviving till the end of the game. Everyone stratified playing the game seriously, but after each game, there are unfortunate ones who die. In between the players there existed coordination, cheating, groupism, almost everything. This makes the series more interesting to watch.

At the end of the series, we can see Seong Gi-hun winning the contest. He was made unconscious and was returned to his place. In the morning he gets confused and checks the bank balance which had the contest-winning prize. Though he couldn’t forget what happened in that place, he decides to live with his daughter.

The story ends with him boarding the flight to see his daughter, but an unexpected phone call interrupts his journey. After cutting the call, he decides to cancel the journey and walks outside, where we can assume that he is going to see the person who made this call. This brings us to the end of season 1 and maybe the beginning of season 2.
