Superman & Lois Season 3 Release Date, Plot, Cast, and Many More!

Superman & Lois Season 3 will return for a third season, and a lot will change in that time. The Super-family is racing into a new period of adventures, and with it comes a cast change, new foes, and more conflict. The CW series’ less “villain-of-the-week” and more serialized storyline has set it apart, both literally and figuratively, from previous Arrowverse episodes. Superman (Tyler Hoechlin) and Lois Lane (Bitsie Tulloch) were introduced in Supergirl before they had their own show, but Kara (Melissa Benoist) never got a mention.

As it turns out, Superman & Lois is set in an alternate reality (thanks, multiverse!), with him being the only confirmed superhero. The development of this universe, and whether or if it becomes its own DC Universe complete with heroes and villains, is something to watch. Here’s all we know about the new and returning cast members, the storyline, and the premiere date for Superman & Lois Season 3.

The CW confirmed in March 2022 that Superman and Lois would be back for a third season. The CW has stated that new episodes will premiere in 2023. Considering that the premieres of the prior two seasons occurred in January and February, we can assume that the third season will follow suit.

Superman & Lois Season 3 saw the Kents fighting on several fronts. The hideous antithesis of Superman from Bizarro World visited Smallville, and the two had to fight, but he was just the starter. Ally Allston, the cult leader, was the actual danger because she used a psychological program called the Inverse Method fueled by her pendant to suck the energy out of her members.

The queen of Bizarro World came to Superman’s Earth to force the two realms to unite so she could become the supreme ruler of both. Superman teamed up with his brother and “improved” antagonist Tal-Rho (Adam Rayner) and was thrown into the sun for a solar energy recharge, allowing him the power to prevent Ally from completing the convergence when she combined with her Bizarro counterpart and absorbed Superman’s powers.

As it turns out, Superman & Lois is set in an alternate reality (thanks, multiverse!), with him being the only confirmed superhero at the moment. The development of this universe, and whether or if it becomes its own DC Universe complete with heroes and villains, is something to watch. Here’s all we know about the new and returning cast members, the storyline, and the premiere date for Superman & Lois Season 3.

The mix of new and old face Stars Tyler Hoechlin, Bitsie Tulloch, and Alex Garfin, who plays the Kents’ superpowered kid Jordan, will all return to the series. Jordan Elsass, who played Clark and Lois’s other son Jonathan in the first two seasons, left the show before season three due to mental health issues. Michael Bishop, who will replace Elsass as Jonathan Kent, has been spotted on set shots acting alongside Tulloch and smiling for the camera.

The character of General Sam Lane, Lois’s father, played by Dylan Walsh, will also be back for the second season. We may also look forward to seeing the return of the show’s other family, the Cushings and the father-daughter combination, the Irons. Lana Lang Cushing (Emmanuelle Sophie Anne Chriqui), Sarah Cushing (Inde Navarrette), and Kyle Cushing (Erik Valdez) have a lot of issues to resolve by the end of Season 3.

Taylor Buck, who portrays John Henry Irons/brilliant Steel’s daughter Natalie, and Wolé Parks, who plays the title character, will return. Lois’s journalism colleague Chrissy Beppo, played by Sofia Hasmik, is back for another season. Chad L. Coleman, previously seen on The Orville, has been cast as Bruno Mannheim, leader of the criminal organization Intergang in Superman & Lois Season 3. In both the second season’s allusion and the comics, he is depicted as resorting to extreme measures.

Thematic development in Superman and Lois Season 3 and Season 2 saw the Kents fighting on several fronts.

Superman teamed up with his brother and “reformed” villain Tal-Rho (Adam Rayner). He was tossed into the sun for a solar energy recharge, allowing him the strength to prevent Ally from achieving the convergence when she combined with her Bizarro counterpart and absorbed Superman’s powers.

In the second season finale of Smallville, David Ramsey’s Diggle visited and warned Clark Kent about the dangerous mobster Bruno Mannheim. The John Henry Irons of this Earth was killed by Intergang (the John Henry Irons from the other Earth is the result of a malicious Superman’s rampage). Thus this could turn personal for Bruno.

Superman & Lois Season 3 may give Diggle more screen time as another of Superman’s allies now that he’s on the case. Now that Clark’s closest friends and family know his secret identity as Superman, they are likelier to participate in his superhero activities (Kyle Cushing is on the outs after cheating on Lana in the past).

Jordan’s abilities advanced dramatically in Season Two, and his grandfather Sam Lane began training him. As time passes, Jonathan may be able to match or surpass Superman’s level of power. Tal-Rho went to Bizarro World to replace the Bizarro Superman after he helped his brother. This was his chance for a clean slate and to shed the villain’s name once and for all.

After getting in deep trouble for trying to use X-Kryptonite to get superpowers like his brother and father, Jordan has decided to abstain from the substance. Superman & Lois Season 3 hints at a technical shift for him, and with a new Fortress of Solitude in the middle of the ocean, he’ll have plenty to keep him busy.

Cast information is yet to be announced, although the big stars who could return for Superman & Lois Season 3 include: Tyler Hoechlin as Clark Kent/Superman, Elizabeth Tulloch as Lois, Lane Jordan Elsass as Jonathan Kent Alexander, Garfin as Jordan Kent, Erik Valdez as Kyle, Cushing Inde Navarrette as Sarah, Cushing Wolé Parks as John Henry, Irons Sofia Hasmik as Chrissy Beppo\s, Tayler Buck as Natalie Irons Dylan Walsh as Ret. General Sam Lane Emmanuelle Chriqui as Lana Lang Cushing.

The Season 2 conclusion saw David Ramsey’s John Diggle tease a new nemesis as he met John Henry Irons (Wole Parks) at Smallville’s cafe. Diggle handed Irons a packet regarding Bruno Mannheim, an infamous criminal likely responsible for the death of Earth’s version of Irons. Mannheim’s appearance in season 3 will be his live-action debut.

Talking about how Mannheim will be the key villain in the upcoming episode, showrunner Todd Helbing recently told Den of Geek: “Every year, at some point, I talk to DC, and there’s a deck that’s generated that tells us who are the characters that we can investigate. I put in requests [and] there are routes that I can go down, sometimes fully, sometimes half, sometimes not at all.”

If it’s not at all, then we just develop a different version of it. “He added: “Bruno is going to be a significant component of season 3 and will be a huge influence on several characters. And if you watch seasons 1 and 2, there are many things in place that may take us to a certain place.”
