The show features the good and bad times of the Great Sheng Kingdom, from its rise to becoming great under the reign of Helan Mingyu, Empress Dowager Xianzhen.

Portrayed by Zhao Yingzi, Mingyu is a carefree, honest, bright and naïve young lady co-incidentally introduced to the 9th Prince Xiao Chengxu. The duo become close friends and slowly develop feelings for each other. Chengxu continuously made military strategies to help his brother become the emperor and build the Great Sheng Kingdom.

But things change when Chengxu’s younger brother Chengxuan’s life becomes dependent on Mingyu, and she is only left with one other option except marrying Xiao Chengrui, who is Chengxu’s third brother. This happens when false news about Chengxu’s demise and his being trapped in the cruel Harem life spread throughout the kingdom. The secrets behind the murder of Chengxu’s mother are soon revealed, and Chengxu decides to take over the throne as revenge.

However, Chengrui dies from a sudden old illness, and before that, he orders his son Qiyuan to take over the throne so that Chengxu can be restricted to it. As time passes, Qiyuan gets irritated that Chengxu controls him and hates him after discovering his uncle’s affair with his mother. Mingyu, the Empress Dowager Xianzhen, gets trapped between the desires and needs of her people, who take over her wishes. She eventually has to use her wisdom to return peace towards her favourite person and the nation.

Chengxu meets his end in a battle while protecting Qiyuan, and Qiyuan also dies with his favourite wife. To ensure the future of Great Sheng, Mingyu must let go of everything else by accompanying her living grandson towards the throne. The series has a perfect blend of romance, action, emotions and drama, making it an ideal watch for everyone. Although such shows are less popular compared to how they used to be in the old days, there are many things we can look forward to in the series.
