The show is about a battle between different gangs and criminal organizations in London. It is also, adapted from a 2006 video game of the same name.

The production team also went to St Clere Estate in Kent for a Traveler site and Dartford. They even shot a speed boat scene close to Queen Elizabeth II Bridge and a driving sequence appeared on Pilgrim’s Way. The second season was confirmed for release in 2022 and production in a few states was stopped following the Covid-19 pandemic in 2021. Filming for Season 2 started on May 31, 2021, and concluded in February of this year. The second season is darker regarding power struggles. Following the death of Sean Wallace and the violent events in Season 1, the pattern of the city has changed and the surviving Wallaces have separated. Also, the Dumanis are now estranged and Elliot Finch must work for the investors. While the Investors look at the city getting into chaos, they plan to bring reinforcements for some control and old members, along with new ones followed by the sworn enemies collaborating to betray each other.

Season 1 of the show was co-produced by the American network Cinemax, and it was also scheduled to premiere on Sky. An announcement was made in January 2020 by WarnerMedia executives stating that they would end Cinemax shows.
