Season 2 of NBC’s ‘Songland’ premiered on April 13, 2020. On June 15, 2020, it came to an end with the tenth episode. There has been no official word from the network regarding the show’s renewal until now. During its run, Season 2 averaged 0.6 live ratings in the 18-49 demographic. Although the ratings have dropped slightly from season 1, they are still high enough to persuade the producers to go ahead with a second season.

Furthermore, ‘Songland’ does not offer a grand monetary award and is shot in only a few locales. As a result, the production expenses aren’t very high. In addition, the show’s unique premise has been highly appreciated by viewers. “Songland’s” seasons have all premiered in the spring so far. However, after Season 2 ended in June, NBC has made no formal announcement about “Songland.”

Three brilliant music producers will be joining the judging panel. Ryan Tedder, the lead singer of OneRepublic and four-time Grammy Award-winning songwriter, is the first on the list. He’s also worked with Adele, Taylor Swift, Beyoncé, and the Jonas Brothers as a producer. Ester Dean, a Grammy-nominated songwriter, and Rihanna, Katy Perry, and Nicki Minaj’s producer are up next. Finally, there’s Shane McAnally, a three-time Grammy winner who’s worked with Kacey Musgraves, Kelly Clarkson, and Sam Hunt as a producer. The full group is slated to make a comeback in Season 3.

Each week, four competitors compete for the chance to have their song recorded and published worldwide by the featured chart-topping artist on ‘Songland.’ Lyrics, arrangements, beats, melody, and plot are among the aspects of the contestants’ creations that are judged. Each episode concludes with the announcement of a winner, whose song is recorded and published for an international audience. Boyz II Men, Florida Georgia Line, Luis Fonsi, H.E.R., Lady Antebellum, Martina McBride, Julia Michaels, Ben Platt, Bebe Rexha, and Usher are among the guest recording artists in the second season. Season 3 will feature a new crop of contestants as well as a slew of new music superstars.

Reality shows like American Idol and The Voice all have one thing in common: they focus on the performers. In many cases, though, there would be no performers if not for the songwriters. Not everyone who can sing can also write music.

It’s difficult to determine what the future holds for this series without a confirmed renewal. In the fall of 2019, the first season premiered. In the spring of 2020, the second season premiered. From the beginning, this show has lacked consistency. It has the potential to be a good summer event in 2022. This will be determined by NBC’s TV schedule for 2021–2022.

Ryan Innes, a Utah singer-songwriter, participated in “Songland” last season. Even though Lady A did not choose Innes’ song “Long Way Home,” which was up against the smash hit “Champagne Night,” the song was a hit for Innes.

Todd Tilghman, the winner of “The Voice” last year, cut the song and performed it for the season finale of “The Voice.” It quickly rose to the top of the iTunes charts.

“I didn’t create ‘Long Way Home with the intention of someone else cutting it,” Innes previously told the Deseret News. “But I’m delighted I got out of my way and let the song live,” she says.
