Woori The Virgin is a South Korean TV show released on May 9, 2022. It deals with a woman who has not lost her virginity but is pregnant with a child after a mix-up during a regular check-up. It is directed by Jeong Jeong- Hwa and is based on the American show Jane the Virgin which ran for five seasons on CW in USA from 2014 to 2019.
The American show itself was inspired by the Venezuelan telenovela, Juana La Virgen. Woori The Virgin stars Im Soo-Hyang in the titular role of Oh Woo-ri. The rest of the main cast are Sung-Hoon, Shin Dong-Wook, and Hong Ji-Yoon. It aired every Monday and Tuesday for 14 episodes on SBS TV. The first season ended after the last episode aired on June 21, 2022.
Who Is The Better Man?
After both Raphael and Kang-Jae ask Woori out, they start fighting over who she should be with. However, Woori herself is confused and doesn’t know what to do next. Kang-Jae apologizes to her after coming to her office the next day. He thinks that he loves her regardless of her situation. Raphael also arrives in the office right after Kang-Jae’s departure and apologizes to her for pressurizing her to get married. Meanwhile, Ma-ri’s mother is still kept hostage by Chairman Kim who hasn’t been caught yet. She wants to take over the medical foundation with the help of Ma-ri. She is sent by her to collect all information on illegal activity by the foundation.
The Big Reveal And The Proposal
Raphael’s father decides to leave the hospital and move to a monastery. Before leaving, he reveals to Raphael that Chairman Kim is his older sister born illegitimately before he got married. Ma-Ri gives a USB cable filled with fake documents unbeknownst to her. Before she could confront her, she is arrested by Kang-Jae and Na-Hee, his junior. Ma-Ri apologizes to Raphael and starts a new chapter living as Mal-Ja again.
Raphael could save his business and family with her help and thus comes to say goodbye to her. On the final day of his shoot, Woo-Ri acknowledges Choi Sung-Il as her father and offers to help him propose to her mother again after his failed attempt earlier. He proposes to Oh Eun-Ran who says she’ll accept the proposal on only one condition. Her daughter has to make her choice between Raphael and Kang-Jae. Woori says she has made her choice already. The next day, Woo-Ri has surgery and is worried about her baby but the procedure goes well.
The Decision And The Wedding Day
The show takes a time leap of 10 months and Woo-Ri is preparing for her daughter’s 100-day celebration. She has named her daughter Ri-Woo. Her mother and grandmother have arranged a feast while her father, Raphael and Kang-Jae arrive on time. After this, it was time for her to get married. It is revealed that after her surgery, Woo-Ri had proposed to Kang-Jae and waited until the baby was born to get married. Raphael accepted her decision and befriended Kang-Jae.
Kang-Jae gets arrested on the wedding day after trying to break the security gates as he was late. Woo-Ri goes to fetch him from the police however no taxi is available due to an ongoing marathon in the neighborhood. She has no choice but to run to go get him until she sees a bus and convinces the other passengers to assist her. She finally gets Kang-Jae from the station and picks up her family who also ran with her.
Marriage Life
After the wedding, the couple buys a house beside Woo-Ri’s house to visit her family daily. Her mother has gotten pregnant. Raphael also visits her family and they acknowledge him as a part of them. Thus, it was a happy and joyous ending for everyone which is bound to melt every viewer’s heart.
The show is a beautiful and heart-wrenching ride and should be watched and enjoyed by everyone.
